Only a child at her passing, Myrtle is buried in an unmarked grave in the back section of the cemetery near her parents, Charles Engram "Charlie" and Ida Eula "Ida" Jeffords Alexander. Back then, the cemetery was known as the Thornal Cemetery.

According to her death certificate, she was badly burned in an accidental fire that apparently happened on January 4, 1916 at her home on "Lone Tree Farm" in Ebenezer, a community just outside of Timmonsville in Florence County. The doctor stated that he first treated her on that date. Family has indicated that her dress caught fire. The death certificate states the fire was accidental. She didn't die from the 2nd and 3rd degree burns until the 29th of the month, 24 days later, due to a contributory complication, septicemia.
