US Army veteran of the War of 1812. First buried elsewhere, he was reinterred next to his father Hugh Auld, Revolutionary War veteran.
26th Regt., 12th Brigade. He was married to Zipporah Willson (1775-1849). He is now buried adjacent to his father, Hugh Auld, in Section 2 of Arlington National Cemetery. Though it is said that just dirt was moved and his remains are still at Wades Point. While he no longer owned the property, it was his wish that he be buried at the property that he loved. He sold the property to Thomas Kemp in 1813 and Thomas is buried next to him.

The elder Hugh (1745-1813) was the youngest of six sons of John Auld and Mary Sherwood. All six sons served in the Revolutionary War, including my ancestor Philemon, the fifth son. On 09 Apr 1778, the elder Hugh was commissioned 1st Lieutenant, Maryland Militia, 38th Battalion, United Company. On 03 Jul 1780, he was attached as a 1st Lieutenant to the Talbot County Militia, 4th Battalion, United Company (probably the same unit which had been redesignated). The elder Hugh died 17 Dec 1813 and was originally buried in the Deepwater Point Cemetery, East Martingham Subdivision, near St. Michaels, Talbot County, Maryland.

The younger Hugh (1767-1820), subject of this memorial, was the second of three sons of Edward Auld and Sarah Haddaway. Edward, who was said to have been killed during the Revolutionary War, was the fourth son of John Auld and Mary Sherwood, which makes him the brother of the elder Hugh Philemon. The younger Hugh, who served as a Lieutenant Colonel, 26th Regiment, 12th Brigade, Maryland Militia during The War of 1812, was, therefore, the nephew of the elder Hugh, not his son.
