Carl was a professional baseball player who played in the minor leagues in the South a few years before entering into World War II.

According to his stats, Carl was six foot one, one hundred and ninety pounds, starting professionally in 1939. He had a batting average ranging from .211 to .325 during his pro career.

Carl played for: (1939) Ashland Colonels of the Mountain State League; (1939) Orlando Senators, Florida State League (parent team was "Washington"); (1940) Ashland Colonels of the Mountain State League; (1941) Columbia Reds of the South Atlantic League (parent team was "Cincinnati"); and (1946) Knoxville Smokies of the Tri-State League.

All records found on Carl by this research, so far, have indicated that he may have been untruthful about his age when he joined into professional baseball. Most of what I've seen has him listed at about 2 years older than he actually was.

According to enlistment records, Carl joined the United States Army on May 23, 1941 at Fort Jackson, South Carolina near Columbia. That stopped his baseball career until after the war, in 1946.

He died at age 42. Carl's middle name, Henry, came from his father, Henry Lee Alexander, originally of Darlington County, South Carolina.
