Henry Semple Ames, 53 years old, vice president of the Mississippi Valley Trust Co., died from pneumonia at his home, 3824 Lindell boulevard, at 7:40 a.m. today. He had been ill but four days, and was at his desk in the trust department of the bank last Thursday.

Ames had been connected with the Mississippi Valley Trust Co. since 1898, when he became an assistant trust officer. He was elected vice president in 1910 and had charge of the trust department.

He was a son of Edgar and Lucy V. Semple Ames and was born in St. Louis. He had his early education training in Smith Academy and studied in Paris and Hanover, and was later graduated from Yale and the St. Louis Law School.

Funeral arrangements have not been made.

Henry Semple Ames, vice-president of the Mississippi Valley Trust Company, died Monday after a brief illnes [sic] from bronchial pneumonia at 3824 Lindell boulevard, St. Louis, where he resided with his mother, Mrs. Lucy V. Semple Ames.

Edgar Ames, his brother, is on a fast train, coming from Seattle to attend the funeral. Arrangements for the funeral await consultation with the brother, who represents the Ames interests in the reclamation of tide lands and harbor properties near Seattle.

When Ames left the trust company office last Thursday afternoon he said he was feeling slightly ill and thought he would remain home until after the week-end to recover.

Ames was born March 4, 1863, and was the son of the late Edgar Ames and Mrs. Lucy V. Semple Ames. He is survived by his mother, two sisters - Mrs. Henry S. Turner and Mrs. Mary Ames Cushman, of St. Louis - and by one brother. He was unmarried.

The funeral of Henry Semple Ames, vice president of the Mississippi Valley Trust Company, is to be held at 11 o'clock this morning from Christ Church Cathedral. Dean Carroll M. Davis will officiate. Interment will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
