LINCOLNTON ~ Luther Dalton "L.D." Hoyle, 85, of 495 Southside Church Road, died Oct. 14, 2002.
He was born June 8, 1917 in Lincoln County, son of the late Charles Pinkney and Sarah Jane Smith Hoyle.
Funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Bud Jernigan, Rev. Keith Chronister and Rev. LeeRoy Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Church cemetery.
He was the retired manager of Turners Mens Store and was a WWII Army Veteran. Mr. Hoyle was a devoted member of Southside Baptist Church where he was the Sunday School Superintendent, a Deacon and Trustee. He was a Sergeant in the Infanty 36th Division and the first man to put foot on French soil in the invasion of Southern France.
Survivors include his wife, Rosalie Hoyle of the home; one brother, Roy "Doc" Hoyle of Lincolnton; three sisters, Mrs. Camilla Cass, Mrs. Velma Christopher of Lincolnton, NC and Mrs. Margie Aderholt of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
