Mr. James William Adams, 88, passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, in the Veterans Hospital in Columbia.

Mr. Adams was born in Florence County, a son of the late Luke Adams and the late Annie Elizabeth Coker Adams. He was a member of St. John Free Will Baptist Church and was a member of the U.S. Army, where he served in World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Belle Cooper Adams of the home; two daughters, Barbara Benedict (Gene) of Scranton and Audrey Teal (Buck), also of Scranton; four sons, Dexter Adams (Ann) of North Carolina, Dallas Adams, LaRue Adams (Marie) of North Augusta, and Carroll Adams (Linda) of Winnabow, N.C.; two brothers, Wilkins Adams of Coward and Rembert Adams Dorrell of Timmonsville; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

The family will have visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, in the Brockington Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in St. John Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
