Mathilda Carlson was born (as Mathilda Carlsdotter) 1 December 1867 in Urshult, Kronobergs län, Sweden, the daughter of Carl Olafsson and Stina Carlson. She immigrated to the US in 1895. On 16 Apr 1897 Mathilda married Charles John Bloomquist, son of Andrew Bloomquist and Anna Christine Bloomquist at Ashland, WI, J.D. Nelsenius officiating. The witnesses to their marriage were her brothers Charley Carlson and Otto Carlson, who had also immigrated to the United States. Charles and Mathilda moved to Brainerd, MN in 1900 and in Sept 1913 to the Bemidji area and farmed at Big Lake. They moved into Bemidji in 1936. Charles worked as a carpenter for several years. (Mathilda's mother, Stina Carlson, also immigrated to the United States, leaving Urshult in 1900 and reaching Ashland, Wisconsin in 1901.)

Mathilda died on 9 Dec 1950 at Bemidji and was buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji. She was survived by her husband Charles, a daughter, Nancy Louise, and five sons, Earl Edwin, Wilbur Winfred, Hugo Herman, Carl Maurice, and Harold Markus, and 15 grandchildren.
