Wittenberg Express, Thurs. Feb. 5, 1970, p. 1, c. 4. Services Held Tuesday for Lawrence Nelson, 74. Lawrence N. Nelson, 74, Wittenberg Route 1, was found dead at his home Sunday. He died about a week and a half ago, according to Shawano County coroner, Dr. C.J. Heagle. Mr. Nelson was born June 15, 1895, in Moorehead, Minn. He was married March 17, 1936, in Illinois to Elsie Klix, who died March 3, 1960. He moved from Milwaukee to the Wittenberg area in 1938. He was a retired farmer and an army veteran of World War I. Survivors include a step-son, Harold Wendlendt, Tomah; and a step-daughter, Mrs. Frank Karsten, Fond du Lac. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Schmidt Funeral Home, Wittenberg. The Rev. H.H. Landdeck of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wittenberg, officated. Pallbearers were Wesely Foth, Erdmund Foth, Olin Hagen, Helmuth Reiter, Glenn Berger and Jerry Saliger. Burial was in the Forest Home Cemetery, Wittenberg. Military rites were conducted by the Bloecher-Johnson American Legion Post 502.
