Married Sarah Jane Robinson on Nov 26, 1879. They had eight children, 4 that died in infancy. He was preceeded in death by his wife Sarah Jane, in 1934, twin infants, in 1880, dau May Forney, in 1928, son Charlie, in 1886, and George Albert "Allie" Lippold, in 1936. Survivors included sons Emil and Howard, 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Services were held at the funeral home in Mound City, MO the Rev Merrill Ferguson officiated. Pallbearers were grandsons Orville; Bryan; Glenn Lippold; Richard Forney and great-grandsons Orville Jr and David Lippold. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery at Mound City, Missouri.
