Dock was the son of John Porter and Lucy Brown and siblings in the 1900 Polk County, TN census were William Robert, Albert, Mary E., Sarah I., twins Mercile and Marcilous 'Mark', John A. and Lee. They sometimes didn't enumerate babies, so Dorsey didn't appear in a census until 1910. Lucy said she had borne 10 children with 8 living, so there are two babies who have died by then.

My grandfather, William Robert was married and had three children by 1910, so he stayed here in Polk County, but the rest of the family moved to Abbevile, South Carolina to work in the cotton mills. Their father, John, remarried Lula Odom after Lucy died there.

Dock married Myrtice and they had a son, Dorsey 'Nookie', and a daughter and made their home in Atlanta.
