Olive Gile was born in the town of Gainesville, Wyoming county, NY, on May 3, 1829. She came with her parents to Sharon, Wisconsin in 1842. She was married to Seymour Rice, of Sharon, on July 27, 1849. Eight children were born to them, six boys and two girls, four of which whom have preceeded her to the better land. Some twenty five years ago, she came with her husband to Troy, where for many years they lived upon the farm now occupied by their son Frank, from which a few years ago they moved to this village. The deceased was one of a family of thirteen children, nine of whom are still living. She was a woman of quiet habits, much attached to her home and family. For a number of years past, she had been in poor health, but ever mindful of the wants and comforts of her household. She was a member of the Methodist church and enjoyed the confidence and respect of those within the circle of her acquaintance. She is survived by a sorrowing husband, two daughters and two sons, and a large number of relatives and friends.
The funeral services will be held at the house Thursday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. J. A. Collinge of the Methodist church, officiating. (obit, Elkhorn Independent, Feb 22, 1900)
