Mr. Freddie Thomas Peay of Charlotte, North Carolina was born May 18, 1956, the son of the late Johnny Baptist Peay and Ms. Iola McAlily Peay. Mr. Peay changed his address on Monday, June 25, 2012 from the comfort of his home to a place in glory.

Freddie, also known as "Sweet Pea", was a graduate of East Mecklenburg High School where he played on the Junior Varsity and Varsity Basketball teams. This is also where he became interested in Commercial Printing and where he remained in this profession with iTek Graphics until his move from his earthly home, to his heavenly home.

After High School and joining Greater Mount Sinai Baptist Church, he later
married, Ms. Terry L. Belton, and to this union, two children, Corey and Chanel Peay. At GMSBC, he was actively involved with the Athletic Department and The Sound
Ministry. Freddie loved sports. Throughout the years he was a referee, an umpire, coached baseball, and basketball while serving as a mentor. More importantly, he was a life coach for the rising youth. He served as the Vice Commissioner of the Christian
Athletic Association. Freddie was an active member of the Earle Village Reunion
Committee, the neighborhood where he grew up, Freddie Peay never met a stranger, he loved talking and spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his brother, Johnny Peay, sister,
Elizabeth P. Hall, and a devoted nephew, James W. Hall (d. 2005)
He leaves to cherish fond memories: his mother, Ms. Iola M. Peay of Charlotte, NC; a son, Mr. Corey S. (Jamie) Peay of Indian Trail, NC; a daughter, Ms. Chanel S. Peay of the home; son/nephew, Orantes L. Belton of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Ms.
Viola (Andrew) Peay and Mrs. Susie (Michael) Rosenburg of Charlotte, NC, brothers-in-law, Mr. Elijah (Jackie) Belton of Woodleaf, NC, Mr. Richard (Bridgette)
Belton of Charlotte, NC, sister-in-law, Ms. Diccie B. Hancock of Charlotte, NC, three grandchildren, who were the joy of his heart, Kingston Zion Peay, Ke' Mauri Dra'mond Laney, Kaya Lynn Peay, four aunts, Ms. Cora Moore of Mint Hill, NC,
Ms. Nellie Strong, Ms. Sarah McAlily, and Mrs. Roberta (CD) Boyd all of
Charlotte, NC, a nephew, J. Tremayne Chancellor, whom he had a special bond, five God children: Gregory Roberts, Ryan Roberts, De'quann Ruffin, Arielle Ratchford, and Ja'nice Roberts, his extended family included Mr. Willie (Deborah) Ratchford,
Mr. Nathan (Linda) Roberts, Ms. Rose Hamilton (special friend), and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, friends, and others.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 12 noon at Greater Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12 noon. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Garden. Grier Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
