Seymour was born in Syracuse, New York (Wisconsin Death Record), on June 8, 1827, son of Joel Rice and Martha Herrick.

Married Olive O. Gile, July 27, 1849. (Possibly on Jul 30, 1848, Wisconsin Marriages 1836-1930, Seymour Rise & Olive Gile, Sharon, Walworth, Wisconsin)

Moved to Sharon, Wis. when son, Leonard, was young. Seymour lived in Baraboo, Wis.

Listed in 1850 Census, Boone County, LeRoy, IL, 23, farmer, with wife Olive, 21, and many other Rices.

Listed in 1855 Wisconsin State Census, Walworth County, Sharon, WI, living with 2 males and one female (likely sons Sherman and Leonard, and wife Olive).

Listed in 1860 Census, Walworth County, Sharon, WI, 32, (suggests born in 1828, not 1827), landlord, with his wife, Olive, 31, son, Sherman, 10, son, Leonard, 8, son, Edgar, 4, and daughter, Ellen, 2. Sherman born in IL, rest born in WI.

Moved to farm on Quarterline Road in Troy, Wis. in 1867 (later owned by Ellis Dawe in 1931).

He carried on farming for a number of years, and then engaged in the hotel business in Walworth County for about thirteen years. In 1867 he purchased 456 acres of land on S. 13 & 24, Troy Township. (Portrait and Biographical Record of Walworth and Jefferson Cos. Wisconsin, Lake City Publishing Co., Chicago, 1894)

Later moved to East Troy, Wis.. (Leonard E. Rice Obituary).

Listed in 1880 Census, Walworth County, East Troy, Wisconsin, age 52, with wife, Olive, 51, daughter, Alice, 18, son, Frank, 13, and granddaughter, Jennie M. Rice, 8 (Leonard's daughter). His parents were born in Massachusetts. Jennie born in Wisconsin, as were both her parents.

Considering a move West, Seymour placed his Troy farm and East Troy home for sale in East Troy Gazette, published on Wed, Feb 18, 1880. "The undersigned offers for sale his farm of 343 acres, situated 1 1/2 miles northeast of Troy, in the town of Troy, in Walworth County, Wis. This property is one of the best in the county, suited for both stock and grain, and will be sold at a reasonable figure on satisfactory time, as the owner wishes to go west. Also, my house and lot in the village of East Troy, in a very desirable part of town. The house is good, and has about 2 acres of ground surrounding."

(Census taken day before his 74th birthday, if he were born in June 1826). Seymour's parents born in New York.

Seymour died at age 74. He is buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery, East Troy, WI
