Huston -- Charles W."Chuck" Huston, Jr. was born on July 1, 1920, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He attended the University of Omaha in Nebraska, where he pursued a degree in business administration. After serving in the US Air Force, he moved to Fargo, North Dakota where be became a top salesman for Pratt-Lambert Paint Company. On April 22, 1963, Chuck suffered a massive stroke, which left him with a speech impediment known as aphasia. Because of this experience Chuck became a dedicated advocate on behalf of stroke victims. He tirelessly promoted the"Aphasic Bill of Rights" and dedicated his time and efforts to the attention of all 50 states as well as the Office of the President of the United States. Hillary Rodham Clinton and US Senator Pete V. Domenici both acknowledged Chuck's work in this area. On April 18, 1997, Senator Domenici placed a statement in the Congressional Record explaining the misconceptions associated with aphasia and acknowledging Chuck's efforts in making people aware of this important issue. Chuck was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Alyce M. Huston, his parents and a sister. He is survived by his children, Doris Gardner of Westminster, CO, Lee Hamilton and wife, Cindy of Grand Forks, ND, Margaret Thompson and husband, Michael of Eden Prairie, MN, Carol Hamilton and husband, David Khon of Beverly Hills, CA; as well as his companion, Lucia Salat. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Jane Hamilton and Betty Mitchell. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 12, 1998 at St. John's United Methodist Church, 2626 Arizona NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110
