The family invites friends to send written remembrances of Elouise, some of which may be used in her memorial service, to her home on Nissen Road.

Elouise was married for 66 years to the late Hilburne Grady Fulks, who died in June of 2001. She is survived by two of her four children, Robert Grady Fulks and his wife Nancy of Chatham MA, and, her daughter Sue Lynne Fulks Skoler of Cambridge, MA.

Elouise was preceded in death by two sons and one granddaughter: James Worley Fulks (Fremont, CA, May, 2001); Stephen Johnson Fulks, (Salinas CA, December, 1976); and Rebecca Lynne Skoler, (Newton, MA, July, 1981). Elouise is also survived by two additional daughters-in-law: Geraldine Nolan Fulks of Fremont, CA and Pattie Jo Sullivan of Littleton, MA; and by seven grandchildren: Stephanie Fulks Westerman of Amherst, NY; Scott Grady Fulks of San Bruno, CA; Mark Travis Fulks and his wife Gina Turturici of Danville, CA; Judith Lynne Fulks Kitt and her husband Dr. Michael Kitt of Mountain View, CA; Mary Fulks Bailey and her husband John Bailey of Raleigh, NC; Daniel Nolan Fulks and his wife Juana Fulks of Fremont, CA; Michael Joseph Skoler and his wife Jennifer Skoler of Needham, MA. Elouise also had nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Elouise was born in Des Arc, Arkansas on April 15, 1916. She was the daughter of the late Dora Curry and Joseph Worley Johnson. She had one brother, the late Worley Ishmael "Johnny" Johnson.

While living in Oklahoma City, OK, she met and married Hilburne Fulks. During her life, Elouise moved a great deal as both her father and husband accepted more responsible positions within the grocery and produce industries. Hilburne worked primarily for Standard Fruit and Steamship Co. (later Dole/Castle & Cook), TransFresh Corp., and had his own business HEF Corp.

As a result, Elouise lived in various cities and towns in Arkansas and Oklahoma, then in Kansas City, MO; Detroit and Gross Pointe, MI; New Orleans, LA; Lausanne, Switzerland; San Francisco, CA, Concord, MA; and finally in Salinas, CA. She moved to Salinas in 1975. In her lifetime she had moved well over 30 times, had traveled throughout most of the world, and maintained friendships throughout the US.

In Salinas, Eloise was a patron of the Valley Guild, and she volunteered for many years at The Steinbeck: House. She was a member of the Salinas Women's Club, The "Y", and a long-term member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was an excellent cook, and most of her friends and family remember her gourmet meals and fantastic pies.

She worked briefly for both a travel agency ant at The Soy Store in Concord, MA, but Elouise was primarily a wonderful wife, mother, and hostess for her husband's business associates, as well as a volunteer to many charitable organizations. More recently, she was active in the Salinas "Up From Grief" group, Active Seniors, and The Clipper and Friendship Clubs of the First Presbyterian Church.

Together she and Hilburne were members and volunteers for The Chamber of Commerce, belonged to the Elks Club and were contributors to the Salinas Boy Scouts, where Hilburne had been instrumental in starting "Produce for Scouting." Published in The Monterey Herald on February 28, 2004
