Thos. Hatch Dies At 71
CARDSTON (HNS) – Thomas Hatch, prominent farmer of the district, passed away unexpectedly Monday afternoon following a heart attack at the age of 71. His wife predeceased him just six months ago.
He was born at Livingston, Montana one of three children in the family. After finishing high school he attended state university at Missoula, Montana for three years, majoring in civil engineering. [The university is incorrect. Tom moved to Paonia, Delta, Colorado with his mother, sister, (Lucy) and brother, (George) in 1906, and graduated from high school there. He attended college in Colorado Springs, studying civil engineering.]
In 1914 he came to Cardston and in 1916 married Grace Woolf of pioneer Cardston stock. They first ranched in the Beazer district, later farmed at Stavely, then in 1930 purchased land just east of Cardston, farming there till the present time. He had been very active in the community there. He had been a Rotarian, a trustee on the Cardston School Division for the past nine years, a director on the board of the Cardston Co-op, a member of Chief Mountain Lodge No. 58 A.F. and A.M. and also a member of Scottish Rite Lodge of Perfection of Lethbridge.
Funeral services will be held in the Alberta Stake House, Cardston, Friday at 2 p.m.
Bishop Robert Low will officiate. Burial will be in the Cardston Cemetery.
Friends may meet the family in the Relief Society Room from 1 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. The Christensen Funeral Home (Cardston) Ltd. is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by three sons, two daughters and 29 grandchildren. Children are Thomas Jr. of Winnipeg, Stuart of Lethbridge, David, on the Hatch farm at Cardston; Mrs. B. Y. (Mary) Williams of Cardston, and Mrs. Sherman (Henrietta) Young of Salt Lake City. All children will be home for the service.
