Served as a soldier in the Union Army during the Civil War. Benjamin Howell(s), was mustered into Company H, of the 194th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment (100 days) as a Private on July 20, 1864. Before his obligation expired he along with other men from the 194th & 195th PVI Regiments were transferred on September 6, 1864 to the 97th PVI Regiment and formed into an Independent Company. He was mustered out with that Company, June 17, 1865.
