Son of David C. and Mary Ann Herring Carter. Monroe married (1) Mary Turner, and (2) Mamie Turbeville.


MARION - John Monroe Carter, 69, died at 2 p.m. Wednesday at a local hospital after an extended illness.

Funeral services will take place from the Marion Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Friday, officiated by the Rev. Paul Batson. Mr. Carter was a member of Marion Baptist Church.

Mr. Carter was twice married. His first wife was Miss Mary Turner. Surviving this marriage is one son, James Carter of Long Island, N.Y.; and three daughters, Mrs. Homer L. McRae of Marion, Mrs. John Whittaker of Lumberton, N.C. and Mrs. James L. Sutton of Williamsburg, Va.

Mr. Carters second marriage was to Miss Mattie Turbeville Sutton. Surviving this marriage are three step-sons, James L. Sutton of Williamsburg, Va., Robert Sutton of Charleston and Joe W. Sutton of Marion; and one daughter, Miss Ruby Carter of Marion.

Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. Sue Turner of Marion; 8 grandchildren; and 2 step-grandchildren.
