Mrs. Mazerna E. Krear, 82, of 414 Hill St., Emlenton, a well-known resident of that community, died at 6:21 p.m. Saturday in the Franklin Regional Medical Center.

She was born at Emlenton RD 2 on Aug. 1, 1901, a daughter of Plumber and Elizabeth Eakin Williams. She attended schools in that area and received her bachelor's degree from Slippery Rock State College in 1922.

She started her career as an art teacher in the Pittsburgh public schools, working there seven years. She continued her studies under Art Uncher and attended two years of evening art classes at Carnegie-Mellon Institute. She and a friend organized and managed clubs for settlement house children while in Pittsburgh and she was also a leader of a Girl Scout troop there.

Receiving a Frick Scholarship, she studied art appreciation at Harvard University and while there wrote the history of the Harvard Gift Collection of Silver. She also took a summer course in art at the University of Pennsylvania.

She was married to Arthur L. Krear in August 1929 and he died in January 1967. She continued her art work and her chosen medium was watercolor. Still life, particularly flower arrangements, were her favorites.

Her paintings were exhibited at the Kennerdell Music and Arts Festival, at the Laurel Festival in Brookville and Autumn Leaf Festival in Clarion. For many years she made her winter home in St. Petersburg, Fla., and she had a number of showings of her paintings there and had received many awards. She was a member of the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts.

For many years, Mrs. Krear was an active board member of the Venango-Clarion-Forest County Tuberculosis Society. She was a member of the Emlenton Presbyterian Church, the Emlenton Civic Club, the Foxburg Country Club and Oil City-Franklin Branch of the American Pen Women.

Surviving are two brothers, Joseph H. Williams of Charleston, S.C.; Lee Williams, Brecksville, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Thomas (Bernice) Kane of Ridley Park, Pa., and Mrs. Duane (Dorothy) Hazelton of Denver, Colo.

Four sisters, Myrtle Williams, Margaret Dotterer, Pauline McCoy and Frances Storer are deceased.

Friends will be received at the Crisswell-Gardinier Funeral Home, Emlenton... Services will be conducted with the Rev. Darrell Knopp of Emlenton Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will be in the Emlenton Cemetery.
