Beverly J. Thenhaus, 78, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at Cedar Valley Hospice Home on Wednesday, June 27, 2012.

Beverly Jean Gorsuch was born April 21, 1934, in Waterloo, the daughter of John and Gladys Burk Gorsuch. She graduated from East High School in 1952.

Beverly married Donald D. Trostel on October 21, 1953 in Waterloo; he died July 2, 1966. She married Richard A. Thenhaus on January 4, 1974, in Waterloo and he died in June, 1987.

She worked as a bookkeeper for Kroblin Transportation in Waterloo, BFC Transportation in Cedar Rapids, Newton Manufacturing, and retired in 1993.

Beverly is survived by her daughter Debra Larsen and her husband Kermit of Cedar Falls, Iowa; son David Trostel and his wife Brenda of Newton, Iowa; son Donald Trostel and his wife Teresa of Aurora, Colorado; son Daniel Trostel and his wife Bonnie of San Marcos, California; daughter Diane Redmond and her husband John of Watkins, Iowa; son Douglas Trostel and his wife Isabel of Chesterfield, Virginia; stepdaughter Kelley Mattingly and her husband Paul of Newton; 15 grandchildren; 10 great‑grandchildren; brother Dennis Gorsuch and his wife Marcia of Johnson City, Tennessee; and Aunt Dorothy Bloom, Aunt Mariam Einfelt, Aunt Fonda Stitt and Uncle Raymond Burk, all of Waterloo.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brothers Darald and Forest Gorsuch, and many aunts and uncles.

Beverly had been a lifelong member of Linden United Methodist Church and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, canning, working puzzle books, reading and most of all spending time with grandchildren.

There was no doubt that Bev loved to cook, and she was an excellent one (a trait she picked up from her own mom). Bev's best days were when she could make a meal for her family; whether it was one daughter or son, an aunt or uncle, or an entire brood. She would always make enough to feed an army, and the best part was when she would send home the extras, especially her pies. They were the best around!
