Betty was a graduate of Green Island High School. For more than twenty years she was employed as a secretary at Samaritan Hospital in Troy and retired in 1990. Mrs. Dowling was a member of the Presbyterian United Church in Schaghticoke and a very active member in the Seniors Citizens groups of Green Island and Schaghticoke.
Known as "Betty" to her friends, "Bea" to her family and "G.G.B." (Great-Grandma Betty) to her grand & great grandchildren, she was an avid reader, loved to travel on senior's trips, care for family and cook, especially her welcome home spaghetti dinners.
Her survivors include her daughter, Kathleen Seymour (Jack Hart) of Schaghticoke, a son, Joseph W. Dowling (Gar Barkman) of Tampa, FL and a daughter-in-law, Cristina Young of Tomhannock, a brother, Al Stewart of Green Island, a grand-daughter, Danielle D. Seymour of Richmond, VT and two great-grandsons, William and Peter Smialek of Richmond VT. In addition to her parents and husband, a son, Michael Dowling, a son-in-law, Steven Seymour and a brother, George Stewart, predeceased her.
A memorial service celebrating Betty's life will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at 7:15 P.M. at the Presbyterian United Church located at 165 Main Street in Schaghticoke with Rev. Mary Woodman officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the church on Wednesday afternoon, from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. prior to the memorial service.
Inurnment will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in Memory Gardens in Colonie. Memorial contributions, if desired, at the family's request, may be made to the Presbyterian United Church, PO Box 148, Schaghticoke, NY 12154 in memory of "Betty" M. Dowling. Funeral service details are under the direction of the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY Route 7, located in Raymertown.
