Mildred R. Meachem, 85, of Monterey and Carmel Valley, peacefully left us on Saturday, January 17, 2004.

Mildred was born on August 31, 1918 in Phoenix, Arizona. She lived most of her life on the Monterey Peninsula. Mildred served in the USMA from May 1944 until being Honorably Discharged at the rank of Sergeant in May 1946. In 1948 Mildred began a long and distinguished career with the Civil Service.

Her first of many job assignments began at the USMA Depot of Supplies in San Francisco, CA. Mildred spent the majority of her career at the Navy Post Graduate School, where she retired in August 1975, as the Budget Officer. In 1985 Mildred moved to Hacienda Carmel. She quickly became interested in the politics of the Hacienda, ultimately becoming President of the Association.

Mildred was an avid cat lover; she enjoyed traveling, a good debate, crossword puzzles and her weekly luncheons with friends.

Services will be held at Mission Memorial Park, Seaside, CA on January 31, 2004 at 2:00. Mildred's family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Monterey County SPCA. Published in The Monterey Herald on January 24, 2004
