OLAF J. WALSTAD
Olaf J. Walstad, son of Mathilda and Ole Walstad was born April 14, 1888 in Nykirke, Norway and passed away unexpectly at his clothing store in LeRoy, Thursday afternoon, March 5, 1953 at the age of 64.
He came to LeRoy from Norway in August, 1906 at the age of 17 and later became a citizen. He was united in marriage to Marie J. Hauge on Dec. 28, 1910.
He was an active member of the LeRoy Lutheran Church having served as secretary for more than 37 years and a charter member of the present choir which was organized in 1912. Interested in civic affairs, he held a life membership with the LeRoy Volunteer Fire Department, served several years on the village council, a member of the Commercial Club, and Troop Committee of the Boy Scouts. He was also past Master of the Local Masonic Lodge. He was in business in LeRoy for 40 years.
Surviving are his wife, four children: Harris of Minot, ND., Mrs. D.F. Boulett of Minneapolis, Mrs. J.C. Roy of Storm Lake, IA., and Orlow of Joplin, MO. A brother Hans, of Osage, IA., a sister Sigrid of Oslo, Norway, and seventeen grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Martz Funeral Home and the LeRoy Lutheran Church Sunday, March 8, 1953 with Rev. lund officiating. Burial was in the LeRoy Lutheran Church.
