Cedar Rapids, Iowa native.

Enlisted in the Army Air Forces on June 17, 1945 in Jefferson Barracks, MO. Service #17-117386. Completed Army flight training at Hurlbert Air Field, FL during the Second World War and earned his wings.

Transferred to the newly established Air Force. Served as a Boeing B-52 Stratofortress bomber pilot for the Strategic Air Command between 1962 and 1964.

Deployed to Vietnam with the 309th Air Commando Squadron, 315th Air Commando Group, Thirteenth Air Force, stationed at Pleiku Air Base. Served as a Fairchild C-123 Provider military transport pilot. Killed during a "Mule Train' operation to Tuy Hoa Air Base when his C-123B #56-4376 crashed after it struck the tree tops along a ridge line.

Posthumously awarded the Air Medal. Cenotaph placed in Czech National Cemetery, IA.

Crew's remains were recovered by the Army of the Republic of Vietnam in June 1974. Repatriated on June 16, 1974 and identified on February 27, 1979.
