Molly's father and brother (William and James Elkins), as well as four of Thomas' siblings (John, Ada, Amanda and Rachel Alger), all were married in Virginia within a few years of Thomas and Molly. William Elkins, a widower, married Thomas' older sister, Ada Alger; James Elkins married Ella Cole; John Alger married Luvina Derflinger; Amanda Alger married James Comer; and Rachel Alger married Edward Skelton.

Somewhere around very late 1899 to very early 1900, all six of these newly married couples and their children, as well as Molly's unmarried teenage brother, Earl Elkins, initially migrated to Rostraver Township in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Within a year's time, Thomas' sister, Lucy, crash lands in Westmoreland County, which is where she marries and settles down with her first husband, Gordon McIntyre, who had recently departed Virginia as well.
