Mrs. Powell died Tuesday, Nov. 11, in a Florence hospital. She was born in Florence County, a daughter of the late Laney L. and Edith Rhames Ard. She attended Johnsonville High School and was a former store manager of Scotties in Bennettsville, Revco Drugs and Wilson Gift Shop in Darlington. She was a member of the Robert Clyde Sunday School Class and Central Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, J. E. Powell of Darlington; a son, Jeffrey J. (Tammy) Powell of Conway; two daughters, Diane Driggers of Myrtle Beach and Susan Powell of Darlington; three grandchildren, Joey Driggers of Lamar, Bobby Driggers of Florence and Cassie Powell of Conway; one great–grandchild, Maggie Driggers of Lamar; one sister, Carolyn (Kearney) Turner of Lake City and a number of nieces and nephews.
