Mary "Marie" Shaffer, 105, a resident of the United Methodist Memorial Home in Warren, died at the home at 1:20 a.m. Sunday (July 15, 2001). Mrs. Shaffer was a member of the United Methodist Church in LaFontaine. She and her husband had owned and operated an electrical store in LaFontaine; she retired in 1950. She was born Jan. 18, 1896 in Huntington County, a daughter of Charles Cecil and Mabel Sutton Cecil. She married Henry "Rowland" Shaffer May 11, 1914, in Grand Rapids, Mich.; her husband died Jan. 2, 1983. Survivors include a grandson, Lynn Hardt, St. Petersburg, Fla.; another grandchild, a great-grandchild, and a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Cecil W. Shaffer, and a daughter, Ester Louise Van Eepoel. Calling is 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Memorial Home in Warren, with services at the home at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Rev. John Pattison will officiate. Burial will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in LaFontaine.
