Alvin Ogdin, Sr., was the son of Ignatius Ogden (1745-1799) and Mary Riggs (1750-1820). He married Hannah Keller (1777-1853) on 23 JUN 1795, in Harrison Co Virginia. They had ten children: Mary (1797-1846), Adah (1799-1858), Sabet (Sabirt) (1801-1874), Hugh (1804-1872), Nancy (1806-1884), Elizabeth (1808- ), Noah, Sr. (1811-1889), Hannah (1813-1905), Annis (1816-1891), and Rachel (1818-1874). Alvin Ogdin at age eleven moved with his family from Maryland to what is now Wheeling, West Virginia. They moved again in 1787 to Marietta, Ohio. After Alvin and Hannh Keller wed, they first moved to Alexander Township, Athens County, Ohio, then to what is now Columbia Township, Meigs County, Ohio, in 1804. The Ogdin family was the first family to settle in Columbia Township. The original homestead bordered a stream known as Ogdin's Run. Alvin and his wife and many of his family members are buried on the original homestead, part of which is known now as Ogdin (Ogden)Cemetery. Alvin was a well-respected farmer, Justice of the Peace, and served on the Grand Jury in Meigs County. He was 92 when he died.
