MRS. SUE HAWKINS BURCH, age 88, of Eastman, GA, died Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Serenity Place, Dublin, GA.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM Sunday, September 28, at First Baptist Church, with Rev. Joe Daniel, Rev. Daryl Summey and Mr. Tim Vaughn officiating, with interment in Isham Springs Cemetery.
Mrs. Burch was a native of Panama City, FL, a member of Eastman First Baptist Church, a homemaker, daughter of the late Maud Montegue Hawkins & Col. Michael Benjamin Hawkins and widow of Dr. Reuben F. Burch, III. She was a former Sunday School teacher, GA leader, WMU past president and Girl Scout Leader. She was active in the Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of the American Colonists, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, an avid reader and loved cooking, sewing and needlework. For many years, she provided the hospitality for the Burch family hunting guide business, and in later years was actively involved in managing the family farm. She was preceded in death by a Maternal Grandfather – Dr. Andrew Phillip Montegue, who was an acting president of Mercer University, a Brother – Edward Montegue “Monty” Hawkins and Sister – Phyllis Hawkins Engelke.
Survivors: Daughter – Margaret Sue “Peggy” Burch of Eastman; 2 Sons – Reuben F. Burch, IV (Regina) of Montevallo, AL and Edward H. Burch (Angie) of Eastman; 4 Grandchildren – Reuben F. Burch, V (Stephanie) of Memphis, TN, Emmaline Burch of Montevallo, AL, Jonathan Sheffield and Isabelle Burch both of Eastman; Niece – Karen Hawkins of Tallahassee, FL; Nephew – Mike Hawkins (Alison) of Baton Rouge, LA.
The family may be contacted residence of Ed and Angie Burch, 1700 Abbeville Hwy., Eastman, and will receive friends in Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home from 6:00PM-8:00PM Saturday, September 27.
Charitable contributions may be made to Baptist Missions, Gideons International or the American Cancer Society.
