Oscar D. Schmitz, 76, Kansas City in Clay Count, Missouri, died January 8, 1998, at Liberty Hospital, Liberty, Missouri. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 10, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church; burial in Resurrection Cemetery North. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday at the church, where the prayer service will be at 6 p.m. The grandsons will be pallbearers.

Mr. Schmitz was born April 16, 1921 in Parnell, Missouri and had been a resident of Northwest Missouri prior to moving to this area in 1953. He worked for over 29 years as a machinist for Bendix Corporation now AlliedSigna. before retiring in 1983. Mr. Schmitz was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and he was a member of the Friendly Club and St. Vincent De Paul Society. For 12 years he was a little league coach for the North Kansas City Baseball Association. He was a member of the American Legion Post #528, He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Schmitz was preceded in death by his parents, Charles B. Schmitz and Lola M. (Barber) Schmitz' a brother, Orley Schmitz; a sister Marcella Pope; two sons, Charles B. Schmitz and Leo E. Schmitz, and a grandson, Edward G. Wheeler. Survivors include his wife, Mary Heflin Schmitz of the home, two sons, Kevin G. Schmitz, Gladstone, Missouri and Bernard W. Schmitz, Kansas City, Missouri, three daughters, Barbara Owen, Kearney, Missouri, Anita Wheeler, Kansas City, Missouri and Teresa Wood, Monticello, Georgia; his stepmother, Anna M. Schmitz, Maryville, Missouri, two brothers, Norbert Schmitz, Parnell, Missouri and Paulie Schmitz, Kirksville, Missouri; two sisters, Marguerite DeFreece, Gladstone, Missouri and Irene Tobin, New Market, Iowa; 12 grandchildren and three great grandsons.
