Born Aug. 12, 1956, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late James Smith and the late Florena Sisk Smith.
Melisa was a member of New Grace Baptist Church in Iron Station.
Left to cherish her memory are one son, Ricky Shook, Jr., and his wife, Chrissy, of Hickory; one daughter, Dessie Myers, and her husband, Jay, of Mt. Holly; one grandson, Wesley Shook, of Conover; one brother, Henry Briseno, of Newton; four sisters, Brenda Minish, of Stewart, Va.; Wanda Rudisill, of Conover; Sandra Smith and her husband, Bobby, of Newton; and Cathy Vasquez, of Babson Park, Fla.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, June 2, at 11:30 a.m. at New Grace Baptist Church in Iron Station with the Rev. Jerry Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
