Nobel Prize Winner. Austrian psychiatrist and neurologist whose treatment of syphilitic meningoencephalitis through the artificial induction of malaria was the first known shock therapy. The method brought a previously incurable fatal disease under medical control and earned him the Nobel Prize for Physiology in 1927.
