McColley Mortuary records of Lead state that Mrs. Grace Welch died at St. Joseph's Hospital in Deadwood, South Dakota on April 20, 1955 at 12:00 noon at the age of 83 years; residence – Gayville (Central City); occupation – housewife; religion – Episcopalian; resided in Lead 60 years; born in England on February 14, 1872; father – Samuel Bessant (born England); mother – unknown; services at the funeral chapel with Rev. Badenoch officiating; burial in the South Lead Cemetery.

Rites Pending for Mrs. Welch.

Mrs. Grace Welch, 83, Lead resident, died Wednesday afternoon at 12:20 at the St. Joseph's Hospital in Deadwood, following an illness of several years.

Born in England, she had lived in the Hills area for about 60 years. Her father farmed near Bulldog Ranch. She was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church.

She was married May 31, 1907 in Deadwood to James Welch. The couple have one son, Stanley Welch, Mankato, Minn., who survives.

Other survivors include two grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Flora Cave, living in Canada; niece, Mrs. Mary Billings, Lead; two nephews, George Glover, Lead, and Edward Bessant Glover, Oregon. Several other nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Welch was a sister to Mrs. W. Glover and George Bessant who preceded her in death.

The body is at McColley's Funeral Home and arrangements are incomplete waiting the arrival of her son.

Rites Conducted for Mrs. Welch.

Funeral services for Mrs. Grace Welch, 84, Lead resident, were held at 3 p.m. Saturday from McColley's Funeral Chapel, Lead. Rev. Ernest L. Badenoch, pastor of Christ Episcopal Church, officiated.

Mrs. Grace Harris sang 'Abide With Me' and 'He Leadeth Me' accompanied by Mrs. George Vukovich.

Pallbearers were Porter Wagner, John Treweek, Robert Crawford, Andrew Julius, Dr. R.B. Fleeger, and Guy Ferrero.

Burial was in the South Lead Cemetery in the family plot under the direction of McColley's.

Gravesite Details

There is no headstone on this grave in 2017.  It appears that she was buried in the Bessant lot in the old Protestant section, if that is the "family" lot being referred to but, as noted before, there is no marker on the grave.
