SUTTON, Samuel
b. 1/6/1816
d. 1/19/1906; Cypress Twp, Harrison Co, MO
s/o George Sutton & Hannah Gard;
wife: Mary G Patterson, m. 1/18/1838 Preble Co, OH
Partial OBIT: When 24 yrs old he cast his first presidential vote for the Whig candidate, William Henry Harrison & was always loyal from that time to the Republican party to the time of his death, having cast his last vote for Roosevelt in 1904. He was elected Justice of the Peace of Cypress twp and filled the office for 16 consecutive yrs. He was also postmaster for 10 or 11 yrs & took great pleasure in being one of, if not the oldest postmaster in the United States. About 2 yrs ago he received a fall, which caused a fracture of the arm, and although he recovered the use of his arm he could not write very well, so this caused him to have to resign the office of postmaster, but he still continued to enjoy his paper, having received the gift of second eyesight and was able to read without having to wear glasses. "Uncle Sammy", as everyone called him, came to Harrison Co in 1865, about the close of the Civil War. He lived on the same place until the time of his death
