El-Roy Heggemeyer, 65, of Fremont, died July 27, 2004, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 31, in St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Cedar Bluffs. Interment will be in the Arlington Cemetery, with military honors presented by the Fremont Honor Guard of the American Legion Post No. 20 and VFW Post No. 854.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 30, at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Visitation will also be held at the church, one hour prior to services.
El-Roy Heggemeyer was born Feb. 11, 1939, in Norfolk to Leo and Genevieve (Hana) Heggemeyer. He attended the Lutheran parochial school in Madison, where he grew up and graduated from high school. He later attended the Lincoln School of Commerce.
He served in the United States Army from 1960 until 1964, with two years of that duty in Korea.
Upon returning to civilian life in 1964, he worked briefly for the Madison Creamery, and then began his 37 years of employment with Hormel's in Fremont.
On June 4, 1977, he married the former Linda Newkirk in Fremont.
Mr. Heggemeyer was a member of the Fremont Eagles Aerie No. 200; American Legion Post 20; and a life member of VFW Post 854, both in Fremont, and American Legion Post No. 35 of Madison. He was also a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church of Cedar Bluffs.
His survived by his wife, Linda; two daughters and son-in-law, Kelly Knudsen of Beatrice, and Kathy and Dale Matter of Cedar Bluffs; two grandchildren; and a brother, Gene Heggemeyer of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials are suggested to St. Matthews Lutheran Church.
