Note: All biographical information researched and entered by Kool Graves. I verified through Pete's sister that Pete, his dad, and grandfather had at least the first and last names. Pete's father's middle name is Baker and not "J" as the 1930 Census indicates. Sister could not remember Pete's middle name and said her mom gave all the kids a middle name. Peter III is clearly named after his father but I could not find any other record for Pete with a middle name. Pete's nickname was "Pete".

Pete's sister indicated when Pete returned home from WWII, he worked at the local poultry plant and was certain he never worked at the railroad. Also, she does not remember a woman named Sarah being married to Pete or living at their house in Mississippi.

Daughter: Alice Smith Russell of Milwaukee, WI (Mother: Maggie Smith)
Daughter: Gwylin Y. Readus (mother: Estella Readus Watkins Swoope)
Photos of all three kids attached.

Maggie and Pete lived about 7 minutes apart in Jackson, MS. during their childhood. She moved to Milwaukee, WI in 1948. Her daughter, Alice Russell also lives in Milwaukee. Maggie died in Milwaukee in 1996. See FAG memorial: 139038275. Relative indicated Pete lived in Milwaukee for about a couple of years then disappeared.

See FAG Memorial: 49778860 for Estella Swoope

Pete’s grandfather’s name (Tobe Winsley) is on the corner stone of St. Marks Episcopal Church on Lynch Street in Jackson, MS. The Winsley family founded this church. Peter III is the 13th member of the church.

In late 2003, I talked with Yvonne Jackson, JD Mayes, O.C. Mayes, and Ophelia Mayes. Peter died at a boarding home at 1408 Giddings Road, Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio owned by Betty Jackson. After Betty's death her daughter, Yvonne Jackson (possible last name of "Head"), assumed ownership. Pete was separated but still married to Maggie at the time of his death. Maggie lived in Wisconsin had other kids separate from Pete. One lived in Chicago, IL.

Yvonne indicated Pete was a very good guy who kept people laughing. He consumed wine but no other alcoholic beverages. Pete was dating her aunt, Ethelene Smith (no relation just same last name), when he died. Ethelene was playing cards late at night. She went to check on Pete and found him hemorrhaging. Pete’s cause of death is: acute esophago-gastritis (Mallory-Weiss syndrome) and focal gastric ulceration. He also had coronary sclerotic heart disease. Pete's dog died right after him.

I also talked with Robert Smith's (brother and informant on Pete's death certificate) wife, Louise Smith. She like so many others indicated they had no pictures of Pete, did not know much about his kids, and don't know why Pete was gone so long away from his family. Robert and Tobe found Pete in Cleveland. He attended his mother and sister's funerals in the 1960's. Louise said the Smith family was very good to her and asked that I visit her in Chicago.

Peter Sr (II) had a heart attack and died in the 1952 on his job at a railroad site as indicated by his daughter. Peter II is buried in Jackson, MS. at a cemetery with several of his Winsley in-laws. He never moved to Chicago. Pete's mom, Mary, moved to Chicago with daughter, Alice, after Peter II's death. She (Mary) died in 1969 and is buried at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery, Worth, IL. Peter III vanished for many years but surfaced

Peter III has a mother and sister named Mary. His mother Mary Winsley Smith named some of her children (Tobe and Henry) after men in her Winsley lineage. Those men in turn used the same first names for their kids.
