Born in Charlestown, Mass., he resided in Washington, D.C., in his youth, and, after a year at Harvard as a special student, entered the Episcopal Theological School in Cambridge, being graduated in 1882. For the next three years he was rector of St. John's Church in Arlington, and from 1885 to 1897 he was rector of Christ Church in Pittsburgh [sic].

In 1897 he was called to St. John's Church in Stamford, Conn., as rector serving for twenty years until his resignation.

Dr. Addison was the author of two books, "Mysticism" and "The Theory and Practice of Mysticism." He edited "Prayers for the Christian Year," and, with the late Dr. John W. Suter, compiled "A Book of Offices and Prayers," "A Book of Offices for Special Occasions" and "The Peoples Book of Worship."
