Her Missouri Death Certificate shows she was born in 1853, but her stone shows 1855.

Laura was the daughter of Hamilton Thornhill (1828-1908) who was born in Virginia and died in Kansas City, Missouri; and Sarah (Hitt) born about 1831 in Virginia and died in Missouri.

Laura came to Missouri with her parents as a child. They lived in Bonne Femme, Howard County, Missouri.

Laura married Franklin A. Pemberton in 1873, according to the 1900 census. They resided in Saline County, Missouri. Their known children were:
