Elder son of Herbert Morgan & Olive Lermond.

Paul grew up in Thomaston, graduated from University of Maine in 1937 with a degree in chemistry and went on to Ohio State University where he got his Phd. He worked for Dupont throughout his life as a research chemist with fibers. He holds 37 U.S. patents and published 55 papers. Among the aramid fibers he developed are ones that led to Spandex and to Kevlar.

He married Elsie L. Bridges on August 27, 1939 in Thomaston, Maine. They were the parents of two children, Dennis and Patricia.
