Mildred Lucille Osland was the daughter of John and Elsie Mae (Broders) Osland. She attended Columbia #7 and Highland #7 rural schools respectively. She graduated from Gilman High School in 1941.
Following her education, she helped her parents on the family farm and in 1944 she began working at the Stewart Auto Company in Gilman. In 1946, she was employed as the parts manager for Wiedner Implement Company and then began working for the Gilman school district as a bus driver in 1951.
She was married to Mahlon L Dicken on March 19, 1966 at the Dillon Lutheran Church in Dillon, Iowa.
Millie continued to work at the Gilman schools as a custodian and was the head of the transportation department. She retired from the SEMCO school district in 1984 with over 33 years of employment and 500,432 miles of accident-free driving.
She was a member of the Gilman Community Church (now Gilman United Church of Christ) and the Gilman American Legion Auxiliary.
