WOMAN, 42, DIES; STOVE JETS OPEN

Mrs Gladys Castle, aged 42, of 1022 Oakland Avenue died Tues afternoon in her home as a result of inhaling gas from the kitchen stove. The woman's husband, Wilbur Castle, became alarmed when he found the house locked when he returned from work at 3:45 o'clock. He ran to the back of the house and detected the odor of gas from the kitchen door. Breaking down the door, he found his wife sitting in the kitchen with all of the stove jets open. Attempts to revive her failed and she was taken in the city ambulance to St Joseph's hospital where she was pronounced dead. Mr. Castle said she had been in ill health for about two months. Mrs. Castle was born in Sawyer. Mich. May 13, 1900. And lived her life here. She was married to Mr. Castle in St Joseph, Mich. in 1919. Besides her husband she leaves her parents Mr. and Mrs. Bert Hudson of South Bend, two daughters Mrs. Howard Nedderman of West Lafayette, Ind. And Miss Winifred J Castle, South Bend; a brother Frank Hudson, South Bend; and three sisters Mrs. Otis Sullivan, Mrs. Robert Wolfe, and Mrs. Lawrence McCormick, all of South Bend. Friends will be received in the L H Orvis funeral home Thursday and until the funeral there at 2p.m. Saturday. Rev Harvey J Keiser, pastor of Grace Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be at St Joseph Valley Memorial Park.
