Hiram Edgar McGee was born at Orion, Ill. on Jan 16, 1870. At the age of 14, he accompanied his parents to Nebraska, settling at Aurora. During his young manhood, Mr. McGee worked in Nebraska, Colorado and Iowa.
On April 26, 1899, he was married to Miss Bertha Adeline Decker in the home of her parents at Marquette. They made their home in Creston, Ia. For eight years he worked as a fireman for the railroad. Then he started farming in Custer County.
In 1926 he bought a farm at Niobrara, where they lived until retiring in 1949. For the past 11 years, Mr. and Mrs. McGee lived in Ponca.
Mr. McGee's health began to fail about a year ago. He suffered a stroke Aug. 16 and died Sept. 8.
He became a member of and was baptized in the Church of Christ at Cherokee, Ia. Dec. 17, 1948. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, joining at Sargent on April 12, 1917, later transferring his membership to Ponca.
He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Elsie Williams of Merna, Martha Patch of Sargent, Bertha Linder of Portland, Ore. and Mary Slagle of Bloomfield; nine sons, Earl of Plainview, Bert of Grand Island, Clyde of Quimby, Ia., Ben of Creighton, Clinton of Linn Grove, Ia., Merle of Orchard, Keith of Peterson, Ia., Roy of Columbus and Paul of Bloomfield; 59 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; four sisters and five brothers.
