Enlisted as a private in Johnson County Indiana. He eventually attained rank of Corporal, and then musterd out as a private. He was Hon. Discharged at Nashville Tennessee do too becoming ill. In Aug of 1865 on a rainy cold night he caught a cold. Eventually the cold grew worse, and developed into Typhoid Fever. After spending thirty-five days in a hospital at Pulaski, Tennessee being treated for a number of diseases (the doctors did not know what one he had), He returned to light dutuies, and was musterd out of service on Sept 5 1865. As a side effect of the Typhoid he suffer rheumatism for the rest of his life. It often made him weak of strength, had breathing diffculties, and heart complications. George Tolan often mentioned [in his pension files] he suffered with stomach problems do to the Typhoid fever he had. So through the next forty years he kept getting medical examinations in order to get a higher pension. - Bradley Kassian

Federal Veteran pension card - Co. D. 148 Indiana Infantry. His wife Eliza H. applied for a widows pension 7-22-1905 in Minn.. Her file will have proof of marriage etc..
