He is also survived by a brother, Charles Cardinal of North Vernon, Indiana.

Our devoted father and grandfather is sadly missed.
A precious one from us has gone
The voice we love is stilled
A place is vacant in our home
Which never can be filled
Our father gone, but not forgotten,
Never shall his memory fade
Sweetest thoughts shall ever linger
Round the cemetery where he's laid.
