Lester David Abernethy, 66, of Hickory, died Sunday evening in an area hospital following five years of declining health.
A retired employee of Drexel Enterprises and a World War II veteran, he was born May 17, 1915, in Catawba County, a son of the late John and Julia Lafone Abernethy.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Hickory Funeral Home by the Reverend Feather.
A military graveside rite will be conducted by American Legion Post 48.
Surviving are his Wife, Monnie Hicks Abernethy; a stepdaughter, a stepson, a brother, a sister and three step-grandchildren.
