Builder. Hollywood pioneer George W. Hoover, of the Los Angeles Pacific Railroad and Development Company, won the contract to build the Hollywood Hotel. The modern two-story, cement and plaster building was developed on property owned by Hoover, H.J. Whitley and Harrison Gray Otis. Located at the northwest corner of Prospect and Highland in the budding village of Hollywood, the elegant hotel was designed in the Mission style and represented an outlay of 30,000 dollars. During the reception at the opening evening of the Hollywood Hotel on December 19, 1902, Hoover and proprietors Margaret Anderson and Martha Stewart were toasted by nearly 100 prominent guests. In 1907 Hoover sold the hotel to Almira Hershey of the Pennsylvania chocolate family.
