"Early Day Resident Of Lehi Dies In Salt Lake --- Mrs. Kate Woodhouse Kirkham, a resident of Lehi for 50 years died at her home in Salt Lake, Thursday, Oct. 17. Mrs. Kirkham, wife of James M. Kirkham, a leading spirit in Lehi activities for many years, was born in Lehi Dec. 13, 1872. She was the daughter of John and Emma Sureth Woodhouse.

"Mrs. Kirkham took an early interest in music and at the age of 11 was an accomplished musician. At this time she was organist for the Primary association here. Later she served in a similar capacity for the choir in the ward in which she lived.

"During her residence here she taught piano and vocal students with considerable success.

"The family lived in Lehi until 1922, when they moved to Salt Lake. Mrs. Kirkham continued her musical activities after she moved there and was one of the original General Relief Society Singing Mothers. She was also active in MIA opera, glee clubs and choruses.

"From 1934 until 1937 she served with her husband in the mission field. During this period Mr. Kirkham was president of the East Central States mission. At the time of her death, Mrs. Kirkham was a member of Emigration ward.

"Mr. and Mrs. Kirkham were recently honored as one of the eight surviving couples who were among the first to be married in the Salt Lake temple.

"She is survived by her husband and nine sons and daughters, Alice E., Zelda K., Elbert C., E. Kay and El Moine Kirkham, all of Salt Lake City; J. Arno Kirkham, Centerville; Martha K. Jones, Spanish Fork; Alden John Kirkham, Ogden and Bessie K. Lemon, Richmond. She is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Rachel Anderson, Lehi; three brothers, Harden and John D. Woodhouse, both of Lehi and Isaac Woodhouse, Lamoille, Nev., 20 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

"Funeral services were held in the South Eighteenth ward chapel in Salt Lake on Saturday. The list of speakers included, Mark E. Peterson, member of the LDS council of twelve apostles, and LeGrande Richards, presiding bishop, LDS church, Rulon S. Howells, bishop, South eighteenth ward, conducted the services.

"Burial was in the Lehi cemetery."
