One of the earliest Baha'is in the United States, she was named a Disciple of Abdu'l-Baha by Shoghi Effendi. She and her husband Edward Getsinger were members of the first western pilgrimage to Haifa and Akka in 1898 in a trip financed by Phoebe Hearst.

During her life as a Baha'i she stayed several times in Haifa, long enough to learn to speak Persian and translate it to English. During WWI she was sent home to the United States for her safety, fell ill in Cairo, and died there in May, 1916.

Her passport application has a birth year of 1872.

From Shoghi Effendi: God Passes By

It was to the first of these two officially designated Baha'i cemeteries, following the decision of the Egyptian Baha'i National Assembly aided by its sister- Assembly in Persia, that the remains of the illustrious Mirza Abu'l- Fadl were transferred and accorded a sepulture worthy of his high position, thereby inaugurating, in a befitting manner, the first official Baha'i institution of its kind established in the East. This achievement was, soon after, enhanced by the exhumation from a Christian cemetery in Cairo of the body of that far- famed mother teacher of the West, Mrs. E. Getsinger, and its interment, through the assistance extended by the American Baha'i National Assembly and the Department of State in Washington, in a spot in the heart of that cemetery and adjoining the resting- place of that distinguished author and champion of the Faith. (368:3)

Abdu'l-Baha said about Lua:

O Lord, Grant her a palace in the neighbourhood of Thy Most Great Mercy; cause her to dwell in the gardens of Thy paradise, the Most High, illumine her countenance with the effulgence of Thy good-pleasure in the Kingdom of Thy Glory ...

Lua is pictured in many photos from the visit of Abdu'l-Baha to North America in 1912 wearing a blue outfit with a long cloak. It was a special outfit she designed for wearing in the Middle East, and she was the only woman who wore it.
