He coached the Iowa State University Cyclones baseball team from 1936 to 1974, leading them to the College World Series twice. His teams won three Big Eight championships and were ranked fifth nationally in 1957. He also served as an assistant football coach and as an assistant basketball coach, and was a professor of education at ISU until his retirement in 1978.
Survived by a son, a daughter, five grandchildren, three sisters and a brother.
