Edward Chaffin Tully drove a herd of 20,000 sheep from Chihuahua, Mexico to San Francisco, CA. His pay was one half of the sheep. At the end of the drive, he settled at South Gilroy, CA. In 1854, Dona Marie accompanied by her brother, Francisco Quintanar de Alvarez and her three children, rode horseback 700 miles from their home in Mexico to join Edward in CA. Edward and Dona Marie were married in the Cathedral of Chihuahua in 1849. She was the daughter of Pepita de Alvarez, who served in the Mexican Army and Guadalupe Quintanar. Edward fought on the opposite side during the American - Mexican War. Edward was awarded a pension May 14, 1890 in CA, Pension # SA 22736.
